The Lower Tier Project Office (LTPO) performs Army centralized management of the PATRIOT System products that include; the PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) family of interceptors to include PAC-3 Cost Reduction Initiative (CRI) and PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS). The PATRIOT system provides air and missile defense protection of lower tier ground combat forces and high-value assets. The PAC-3 Product Office manages the PAC-3 Missile which is a high velocity hit-to-kill, surface-to-air missile capable of intercepting tactical ballistic missiles and air-breathing threats. The PAC-3 MSE represents the next generation PAC-3 missile which will provide expanded battle space performance against evolving threats. The GSE Product Office manages all ground Major End Items (MEIs) of the fielded PATRIOT system across three categories including Radar, Launchers, and Mission Command components. The LTAMDS Product Office manages the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) which expands the battlespace for the Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor and is the Lower Tier sensor component of the Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) network.

Mission

The LTPO mission is to develop, produce, field, and sustain air and missile defense systems to defend the lower tier within the terminal defense segment of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) architecture. LTPO manages all acquisition life cycle activities for the PATRIOT tactical equipment and lower tier interceptor missiles. The PATRIOT system counters short -and medium- range tactical ballistic missiles, air breathing threats such as fixed-or rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned air-breathing threats, (e.g., cruise missiles, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). PATRIOT strategic operations are enhanced by links to external networks. The PATRIOT system is deployed worldwide with U.S. Forces and 13 Allies supporting defensive operations and battlespace surveillance.
